Unemployed Corps Member Holds Placard on Oshodi Bridge, Pleads for Job Months After NYSC

A Nigerian graduate, unable to find employment months after completing NYSC, was seen on Oshodi Bridge holding a placard pleading for a job—sparking viral social media reactions and renewed public concern over youth unemployment.

A recent Nigerian graduate and former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has drawn attention online after being spotted on the pedestrian bridge in Oshodi, Lagos, holding a placard and begging for a job due to prolonged unemployment.

The incident was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @fw_cas, who posted a photo of the young man along with a heartfelt message:

“Met this corper on Oshodi Bridge today, crying out after NYSC with no job. Let’s stand together for #JusticeForNigeriaGraduates! Help a graduate—share their story! 🇳🇬 #SupportOurYouth.”

The sign held by the corps member read:

If school isn’t a scam, after months of finishing service (NYSC), I haven’t gotten a job.

The post quickly went viral, sparking a wave of reactions from Nigerians who expressed sympathy, outrage, and frustration at the growing unemployment crisis affecting the country’s youth.

📢 Social Media Reactions:

  • @oluwamuyiwa04:
“A lot of ex-corpers are seriously seeking jobs. Why demand 3-5 years of experience from fresh graduates?”
  • @r9mseyy:
“The job market is broken. Most salaries don’t even match the current economy.”
  • @AbolanleAyobami:
“This government is largely responsible for youth unemployment. It’s disheartening.”
  • @Ire_mi_de_2708:
“I went through the same struggle after NYSC. Some people even chased me away from Oshodi when I voiced my frustration.”
  • @TizzedTizzy:
“He used to be my coursemate. Very smart guy—one of the best students in our class.”
