Cursory: The University of Medical Sciences in Ondo State granted automatic employment to its top three graduates during the fifth convocation ceremony. The outstanding graduates, were recognized for their achievements, and the university expressed commitment to supporting their postgraduate endeavors.


During the fifth convocation ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences in Ondo town, Ondo State, Vice Chancellor Prof. Adesegun Fatusi announced automatic employment for the top three graduates. The beneficiaries, namely Miss Francisca Ademulegun from the Physiology Department, Miss Marcy Saba (best female graduate), and Michael Aremu (best male graduate), will receive institutional support for their postgraduate pursuits.
Giving the classes of the graduates, Fatusi said, “Overall, we are graduating 528 students from our undergraduate programmes and 57 students from our postgraduate programmes at this 5th convocation, making a total of 585 graduates. A total of 183 students are graduating from professional programmes with unclassified degrees, 96 students from medicine, 12 students from dentistry, and 75 students from physiotherapy.
“Also, 348 students are graduating from undergraduate programmes with classified degrees, consisting of 19 students with first class, 217 students with second class upper division, 94 students with second class lower division and 15 students with third class honours.”
Fatusi emphasized the institution’s commitment to advancing African herbal medicine, aiming to end the neglect of Africa’s untapped potential.
He highlighted that African medicine could be instrumental in propelling Nigeria and Africa to contribute significantly to global drug development and health advancement.
To facilitate this, the VC appealed to the state government for special attention and intervention funds to expedite the institution’s development.
“The government needs to ensure UNIMED remains a TETFund beneficiary institution. TETFund has been the primary source addressing UNIMED’s infrastructural deficits. Being a specialized university, UNIMED has the highest need for developmental projects and resources,” he emphasized.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, the visitor of the university, disclosed allocating N1 billion for the construction of a senate building at the main campus.
He expressed commitment to advancing the state’s developmental agenda and ensuring the continuous growth and success of the university.
The governor commended the institution’s leadership and stakeholders for their collective efforts in enhancing medical education in Ondo State, noting significant improvements in accreditation, infrastructural development, and overall progress within the last year.
“It is important to note that through the support of the Ondo State Government and the prudent management of the Internally Generated Revenue of the university, the institution has developed tremendously within the last year. Apart from the university programmes that had received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission and other regulatory bodies, the university infrastructural development has also been improved upon,” the governor said.
