Workers at Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of intimidation regarding their demands for better welfare and working conditions, expressing concerns over his recent comments perceived as threats while urging for constructive dialogue to address their concerns.

Workers at Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of intimidation in response to their requests for improved welfare and working conditions.
This issue was raised by members of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) as part of the Joint Action Committee (JAC). In a statement released on Wednesday, the workers asserted that they would not be deterred from pursuing their legitimate rights.
They expressed concern over comments made by the governor during the university’s recent convocation, which they perceived as threats related to their demands for better welfare.
JAC chairman Kunmi Dada acknowledged the governor’s worker-friendly policies but emphasized their disappointment regarding the remarks made at the convocation.
He highlighted that UNIOSUN workers have consistently demonstrated commitment to their responsibilities, maintaining high educational standards despite various challenges.
The workers insisted that their demands for improved welfare are reasonable and necessary for delivering quality services and upholding the dignity of all staff members.
They expressed discontent with the governor’s statements, which they felt disregarded the importance of dialogue and collaboration in addressing issues within society.
The workers called on Adeleke to reconsider his position and urged him to direct university authorities to engage in meaningful discussions with their representatives, emphasizing that threats would only damage the relationship between the government and the university workforce.
In response, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his respect for UNIOSUN workers and their contributions, stating through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that workers’ welfare is a top priority on his governance agenda.
He encouraged the union to approach their demands responsibly and to exercise patience amid the national economic challenges, reiterating the importance of maintaining the university’s operations while addressing welfare issues.
