The Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ebonyi State has indefinitely suspended former gubernatorial aide Felix Okemini over allegations of cult-related activities displayed during the university’s matriculation ceremony.

The Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, has suspended a former aide to Governor Francis Nwifuru due to allegations of involvement in cult activities.
Felix Okemini, who was previously serving as the Senior Special Assistant on Security for Ebonyi North, was dismissed from his position on Tuesday. Recently admitted to study Political Science, Okemini was photographed during the university’s matriculation ceremony wearing a symbol believed to be associated with a secret cult.
The viral image generated significant backlash on social media, prompting demands for his expulsion from both government service and the university.
In a statement made by the Secretary to the State Government, Grace Umezuruike, Governor Nwifuru officially announced Okemini’s removal earlier this week.
In light of the controversy, the university issued a letter, signed by Registrar Dr. Ifeanyi Igwe, announcing Okemini’s indefinite suspension, citing a violation of the matriculation oath.
The letter stated, “The Vice-Chancellor has reviewed the allegations of cult-related behavior against you, based on your display of cultism during the matriculation ceremony on March 14, 2025.
“You are reminded of your matriculation oath, and it is important to note that cultism and related activities are strictly prohibited and contradict the regulations guiding student behavior, posing a moral and security risk to our university community.
“Therefore, the Vice-Chancellor, representing the Senate, has decreed that you be suspended indefinitely, pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee concerning this matter.
“This letter serves to confirm your suspension from the university.”
