Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has warned staff against unauthorized campaigning for Governing Council positions, threatening disciplinary action for those involved and urging adherence to university protocols.

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has issued a warning against unauthorized campaigning for positions on the university’s Governing Council.
In a statement released by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Information and Public Relations, the university noted that some staff members have begun unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming elections to fill council positions, which include four representatives from the University Senate, two from the Congregation, and one from the Convocation.
The statement emphasized that the management disapproves of these public campaigns, particularly the creation of WhatsApp groups and other forms of public mobilization, which violate university protocols. The management warned that such actions could disrupt the university’s peace and stressed that the election process for Council members should be transparent and follow established procedures.
The university is considering disciplinary measures, including disqualification from consideration for Council positions, against those involved in unauthorized campaigning. The statement concluded by urging all members of the university community to respect the institution’s processes and values.
