Students of tertiary institutions who have had their schools’ academic calendar disrupted by the COVID-19 lockdown have narrated their experience during the period.

In interviews with our correspondent, some of the them said, although they had been bored at home, they were using the opportunity to read their books and learn more skills online.

For Ayomide Gbogboade, a 400 level Information Technology student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo state, the lockdown was a blessing in disguise for him.

He said, “Before the holidays, I started learning and developing mobile applications, having this break is more like a blessing because I now have more time to work on projects.”

A 300 level Law student at the University of Lagos, Odunola Akanbi, said she had been reading and researching to keep herself busy during the lockdown period.

“Power supply in my area has improved recently, so, once I charge my phone and laptop, I’m okay. I’m not the type that like going out before, so the lockdown is not a problem for me,” she said.

Also, a 200 level Anatomy student at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Omeiza Yakubu, said it was painful that the lockdown did not allow him to finish his examination.

He said, “Unfortunately, I couldn’t round off my examination before the compulsory sit-at-home order began, so I have to read for the papers I’m yet to write.

“Apart from reading my school work, I read articles online, follow trends on Facebook and Twitter to keep myself abreast of what is happening in the country.”
