We Have Confident That By March, The Three New Campuses Will Be Ready – Rivers State University

Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, has confident that the three new campuses will be ready by March after giving 49-days ultimatum to all contractors handling the project.

The university said the new campuses in the Etche, Ahoada East and Emohua Local Government Areas of the state would be inaugurated in May; hence they must be delivered by the end of March.

Speaking to journalists after a tour to the three satellite campuses as well as the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences and Pathology buildings under construction, on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor, RSU, Prof Nlerum Okogbule, expressed happiness at the pace of work.

Okogbule said, “As you have seen, the campuses are almost ready; some of the contractors have completed their assignments regarding the jobs that we gave them and some have attained 90 per cent completion level.

“We are hoping that by the end of March, most of the campuses will be completed and taken over by the university in preparation for the inauguration in May 2022.

“You can also see that we are working in accordance with the direction and directives of the state governor, which speaks to the fact that the governor is committed to the completion of the projects as schedule and we are also working in the same accord.

“I am very satisfied with what we have seen; most of the projects have attained 90 per cent, some 99 per cent completion, with a few at 89 per cent completion,.

“From the contract schedule, most of them are supposed to be handed over by March 30, but from what we have seen, we are going to take over the buildings on March 15; we have mandated the contractors to ensure their delivery at the end of March.”

Okogbule said the Faculty of Agriculture would be based at the Etche campus; the faculty of Humanities would occupy the Ahoada campus, while the Faculty of Social Sciences would make use of the Emohua campus.

“Just as there are always challenges in every human endeavour, there were initial challenges, particularly in relation to the topography in Ahoada and Etche, but those challenges have been overcome and you can see that the projects are moving very well,” the VC added.

In February 2021, Governor Nyesom Wike announced the release of N9bn for the effective take-off of the three campuses, with each getting N3bn
