Jasmine Tekyi-Acheampong became the first lawyer in her family after earning a First-Class law degree and overcoming personal, academic, and emotional challenges through hard work, supportive peers, and strong faith.

A young African woman, Jasmine Tekyi-Acheampong, has achieved a major milestone by graduating with a First-Class Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Ghana School of Law and later being called to the Ghana Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court. Her accomplishment marks a historic first in her family.
Jasmine describes her journey as one filled with determination, emotional hurdles, and unwavering reliance on her faith. She explained that law school pushed her far beyond raw intelligence, requiring countless hours of reading, analyzing cases, and mastering complex legal principles.
Reflecting on her experience, she highlighted five key lessons that shaped her success.
First, she learned that nothing compensates for consistent hard work, especially in an environment where every student begins with strong academic records.
Second, she committed herself to activities outside the classroom, joining the University of Ghana Debate Society, winning the “My Intellectual Property Law” Africa Debate Competition, and excelling in the Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah Moot Court Contest. These experiences sharpened her advocacy skills and built her confidence.
Third, Jasmine credited her circle of friends for motivating her and helping her break down challenging legal concepts through group discussions.
Fourth, she mastered the art of time management, emphasizing that the amount of weekly reading in law school requires careful planning and discipline.
Finally, she shared that her faith sustained her through moments of stress and self-doubt, with her favorite scripture, Habakkuk 2:3, helping her stay grounded.
After completing her LLB, she proceeded to the Ghana School of Law, where she endured rigorous professional training before finally being called to the Bar. Becoming the first lawyer in her family is a moment she describes as deeply meaningful and a testament to the rewards of persistence.
Jasmine expressed excitement for the future and hopes her journey will inspire others. She aims to make a lasting impact in the legal field and contribute to the generations that will come after her.
