Lagos State University (LASU) will award 192 First-Class degrees at its 28th convocation, with honors also given to distinguished individuals, including Brigadier General Buba Marwa and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, alongside the elevation of Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju to Distinguished Professor.


Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, will award 192 First-Class degrees during its 28th convocation ceremony, alongside thousands of other academic honors.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello made the announcement during a press briefing at the university’s Senate building on Thursday. She noted that this marks her fourth consecutive convocation as Vice-Chancellor.
Among the 8,711 students graduating with first degrees, 192 earned First-Class honors, while 3,076 finished with Second-Class Upper Division, 4,397 with Second-Class Lower Division, 990 with Third-Class, and 39 with a pass. Additionally, 17 students will receive Unclassified (MBBS/BDS) Degrees.
The overall best-graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session is Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department, with a CGPA of 4.93.
For postgraduate studies, 2,235 students will be awarded degrees, including 302 postgraduate diplomas, 1,132 academic master’s degrees, 639 professional master’s degrees, 125 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 professional doctoral degrees.
LASU will also confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians:
• Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State.
• Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, in recognition of their contributions to the university and the nation.
Additionally, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju, a long-serving academic at LASU, will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.
