21-Year-Old Amaraizu Mmesoma Maryann Achieves 4.73 First-Class Degree, Becomes the First Female in Her Department to Graduate with a First-Class

At 21, Amaraizu Mmesoma Maryann graduated with a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from FUTO, achieving a 4.73 CGPA and becoming the first female in her department to do so, while also earning multiple honors and scholarships.

At 21, Amaraizu Mmesoma Maryann has accomplished an extraordinary feat by graduating with a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). With a remarkable CGPA of 4.73, she has set a historic milestone as the first-ever female graduate in her department to earn a first-class degree.

In addition to this groundbreaking achievement, Mmesoma was honored as the Best Graduating Student in Mechanical Engineering, Best Female Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering, and Overall Best Female Graduating Student at the university.

Mmesoma’s academic journey began at the age of 15 when she set out with a clear vision: to excel and graduate with distinction. Looking back, she reflects on how she overcame various obstacles through determination, discipline, and consistent hard work.

Despite the rigorous nature of her program, Mmesoma stood out as a leader and top performer. She earned five undergraduate scholarships, interned at three prestigious engineering firms, and held key leadership positions, including Class Representative for her department and Chair of Women in Engineering at IEEE FUTO.

Sharing her journey on LinkedIn, Mmesoma expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her academic years, acknowledging the significant role played by her family, mentors, and scholarship organizations.

“Although the road wasn’t always smooth, I kept my focus on my goal and worked tirelessly to achieve it. I am immensely thankful for all the opportunities and support that helped me reach this significant milestone,” she said.
