5th & Final Episode of the Story: Trial of Okiki

The Trial of Okiki??‍⚖

Episode 6 Final part.

Ashake was brought before the court and the two holy books (koran and Bible) were given to her, she swore with the koran, “I Ashake Ejigbo swear before this court to say the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God”. she said as she gave back the books to the police. She was very sad and filled with regrets.

The judge then turned to Okiki and asked him if he knew Ashake, “Yes my Lord”!he replied, “i know her very well, she is my class mate and a very good friend of mine”, he said. The judge nodded his head, asked him about his relationship with Ashake,. Okiki narrated his relationship with her to the court. “Ashake belongs to a very deadly fraternity group in the school and she held an important post in the group(iron lady). she was my very good friend until one day when she invited me to her house, i met some of her gang members, i was confused and i never knew they were cultist, they tried to initiate me offering me 350k and a car but i rejected all their gifts and I refused to heed to their offer so they got angry and threatened to kill me, i made the mistake of not informing the police, my lord! that is the story”. Okiki said as he wiped the tears on his face.

The judge turned to Ashake and asked her to tell her own story and how her finger appeared on the injection which was used on Jessica, Ashake continued, “all what Okiki said was right, i belong to a cult and we threatened to kill him when he refused to belong, we left him for some months without disturbing him and he thought we have forgotten,so that fateful night our Capon(leader) gave me the assignment of injecting Okiki, i don’t have a choice than to carry it out even though he was my best friend and a mentor, i hid in his house that fateful night, when he came inside i thought he was alone not knowing that another person was with him, it was dark and quiet so i guess injected Jessica with the poison instead of Okiki; none of them woke or heard my footsteps because it was raining heavily”. She continued, “I never knew she was in the room, when Capon heard of my mistake he nearly killed me and he suspended me for 3months ,my lord have mercy on me, i have repented and turned a new leaf”. she said with tears on her.

The judge smiled not because of the story but because Okiki would be freed that moment, he adjourned the case and ordered for the arrest of the other fraternity members, they were caught in less than two weeks and brought to the court. They were seven in number including Ashake and they also narrated the same story.

” This is my judgement, the judge exclaimed as everyone in the court adjusted their seat, the judge looked around and continued, all the gang members excluding Ashake are sentenced to Two hundred and twenty years in prison with hard labour, this is because Ashake has repented and no longer a member, still she wont go scot free too, she is sentenced to ten years imprisonment with hard labour and for Okiki, he is discharge and acquitted and he would be given a sum of 5million naira for damages and a postgraduate scholarship to study abroad, i rise”!courrrrt!

Yes Okiki was free for the first time in eleven month, he went back to school and thanked professor Abang and others for their support and kindness. Jessica’s father visited Okiki one afternoon and apologised for what he has done to him, okiki smiled and told him he would a do the same if he was in his shoes. “Its not easy to lose a child especially your only child” he said. He gave Okiki a cheque of five million naira and told him to always check on him, he was about going out when he saw a familiar picture on the wall and Okiki told him they were his dead parent, Jessica’s father asked him lots of question and at the end Jessica’s father was Okiki’s uncle. He hugged him and told Okiki he has been searching for him for years but he was told he ran away from home. “what a way of reunion!/you are now my son, my next of kin to my possessions, lets go home son”, he said. okiki smiled, he turned and went to arrange his luggages, Yes,Home sweet Home!
