Ghanian woman celebrated online for achieving her first university degree at the age of 62, bags a first class.

A Ghanaian woman has captured the hearts of netizens by achieving her first university degree at the age of 62.
Elsie Asiedu-Appiah, a 62-year-old Ghanaian, defied age-related stereotypes by earning a degree in sociology from the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
She graduated with a second-class degree, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue one’s educational dreams.
Elsie’s journey was supported by her two daughters. Years ago, she left her banking job to dedicate her time to raising and educating her children.
Her daughters, grateful for her sacrifices, encouraged and assisted her in achieving her academic goal.
The announcement, shared by @Voice of KNUST, received a variety of reactions online. While many congratulated Elsie for her inspiring achievement, some questioned the practical value of obtaining a degree at her age.
Among the comments, one user humorously noted, “My dad is completing Petroleum Engineering at 99 years. Y’all should watch out.” Another user expressed skepticism, asking, “This is a nice thing, but at age 62, what is she going to use the degree for? She’s already on pension.” However, many others offered words of encouragement and admiration, with comments like “God bless your heart and your family,” and “Wow, that’s great.”
