Young Man Who Was an Apprentice at Lagos Market Bags Ph.D., His Story Sparks Mixed Reactions

Cursory: A Nigerian man who courageously pursued his dreams has finally graduated from the university with a PhD. Aloysius Odii used to work at the Alaba International Market, Lagos as an apprentice to a business mogul. The man later left the services of his boss and went back to school to pursue his studies, and his effort paid off.

A relentless Nigerian man who courageously pursued his academic dreams has finally bagged a Ph.D. In a Twitter post, a man named Aloysius Odii said he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, UNN.

According to him, before deciding to return to school, he had worked as an apprentice to a business mogul at the Alaba International Market, Lagos. Aloysius said he finished his secondary school before working at Alaba, but the urge to go to school remained strong.

He said he always had a keen interest in reading books, that while he was in the market he couldn’t help but read. His then-boss had told him to try and concentrate on business. Along the line, he left the market to pursue his dreams.

He said in the tweet:

“After secondary school, I served as an apprentice to a business mogul at Alaba market. My oga often gets furious seeing me read and even advises me to be serious. I had to leave and pursue my dream. I am happy to say that I got my PhD and was part of the convocation ceremony at UNN.”

@Idammacbeno:Big congratulations to you bro

@JosiahMiracle1:You made a right choice.In addition, Alaba International Market isn’t a place to train kids or to increase one’s IQ…It’s mainly for those that loves a certain type of business that involves buying and selling….there is hardly innovation

@martinmckee: Many congratulations! And great to be able to work with you!

@felix_ebahi:Congratulations! I guess you are a lecturer in the university in Nigeria. I pray your salaries are paid regularly. If not you will remember that same boss of yours wanted you to be financially successful.

@Izuman: Congrats super Lion ????, I know this face tho Faculty of social science if I’m not mistaking.

@drSamAlli:CongratulationsU achieve your dreamsThe other technical or salesmanship apprenticeship is also very good But It was not your dream so I respect your choice Once more congratulations

@Nwoko_ugochukwu: Congratulations, Your Oga asked you to be serious, and you became serious in your own way. Congratulations once again.

@Peaceof38907406: Congratulations. However your oga wanted you to succeed in business. Na you go do apprentice. You preferred to succeed in academics that’s why you left, not bcos your oga was misguiding you. Alaba Int’l no dey award PhD. Na millionaire in business Alaba dey produce

@Thafootbalnexus: Why did you go to do apprentice when it wasn’t your dream? Don’t paint the guy in poor light, he assumed you wanted a career path in business and correctly advised you to take it serious.

@_Abiolla:Congrats bro, what you do with your PhD is what matters bro, become a Pastor? look for entry level job or japa?. We must all ask what PhD is worth in Nigeria, to help ourselves and our nation or is it just the self fulfilment?

@GoodeyPhyllis: Congratulations. Thank God you broke free from the captivity. I tried for months to convince a young apprentice to stop selling spare parts, that I was willing to pay his school fees. He was always so afraid of his “oga”. I was like ou need a better life, but he could not get it.

@ferickson:Massive congratulations sir.You ran with your vision driven by your conviction irrespective of what your boss thought. You are an inspiration to others that may be in similar situation as you had been. Congrats!
