“It’s God’s Mercy” – Young Man Who Graduated As Overall Best Student, Begs Govt for Job

Cursory: Obuseh Emmanuel Ewere, a brilliant young man who graduated as Delta State University’s best-graduating student for 2021–2022 has credited his success to God Almighty while advising students on some success tips.

Obuseh Emmanuel Ewere, the overall top graduating student at Delta State University for the 2021–2022 academic year, has disclosed that though he did put in efforts in achieving such a feat, it was more of God’s mercy.

Quoting Romans 9:16, the first-class graduate, who is from Agbor in the state’s Ika-South Local Government Area, said:

“It is with great delight that I stand before you all as the best graduating student on this auspicious occasion of the 15th convocation of Delta State University. I must confess that there were efforts, but it was not solely by effort. The Bible says in Romans 9:16,

“It’s not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” God has been merciful to me, merciful to us all as graduands, and merciful to Delta State University as an institution.”

He went on to appreciate his parents, Chief Barr and Mrs. Obuseh, for not only witnessing the honour done to him, but also “for not laboring in vain.”

“Dad and mom, you have always been my reason for aiming for excellence, and I won’t stop making you proud. I appreciate my wonderful siblings, who served as emotional support at various times,” he added.

While also thanking the student body of DELSU, he also commended Dr. Okowa, “for his consistent support in providing the needed peaceful atmosphere that has always enabled the management of the university to function effectively.”

In his words of advice to Delsuites, he said: “Don’t give up. Get a dream. Fight on even when the odds are against you. You were born to be the best, even if you are not at your best at the moment. Keep studying when you have no one clapping for you. When hunger strikes, fight it back with more labor. The Bible says in Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit, but the talk of the mouth tends only to poverty. Don’t be idle. Don’t be goaless. Chase perfection, and you will catch excellence.”

Emmanuel also seized the opportunity to appeal to the Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the university’s vice chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, that they should give him and other best students a job, adding that the taught of the labor market usually saddens him.

I’m “weighed down by the thought of the labor market,” were the words he told the Governor.

He pleaded with them to see if they can be considered for scholarships to advance in their academic fields.
