American rapper Ludacris has shown that delay is not a yardstick from achieving ones dream after he received an honorary Bachelor’s Degree in Music Management from Georgia State University in 2022, decades after leaving to pursue his music career.
American rapper Christopher Brian Bridges, better known as Ludacris, has been awarded an honorary Bachelor’s Degree in Music Management from Georgia State University.
The 44-year-old rapper received this honor in 2022, a prove that time cannot delay ones achievement after going back to school more than two decades after leaving Georgia State University to pursue a music career.
“GSU, I am home right now. I owe Georgia State University a great debt, because you helped me arrive at my ‘why?’” he said during his address at the university’s commencement ceremony.
Ludacris emphasized the university’s commitment to excellence and inclusion, noting its significant role in graduating more African-Americans than any other university in the United States.
Ludacris enrolled at Georgia State University in 1996 and studied music management for two years while interning at Atlanta’s Hot 97.5 FM. This period led up to the release of his debut album, “Incognegro,” in 1999.
He reflected on his time at the university, stating that it sharpened his skills and instilled the confidence to believe in his destined path. Despite leaving school, Ludacris maintained a strong connection to the institution, considering it a part of his fabric and DNA.
Georgia State University President M. Brian Blake praised Ludacris for completing his college journey, highlighting his transformation from a student in the 1990s to an internationally famous music star. “Today’s honoree began his college journey at Georgia State in the 1990s, before landing a record contract that catapulted him to international fame and stardom,” Blake said.
Ludacris has remained active at the university, joining the Creative Media Industries Institute as an artist-in-residence in 2019, where he shared his experiences in the music and film industries with students. He has also collaborated with the university’s College of Law for a course titled “Legal Life Of Ludacris.”
Ludacris shared his achievement on Instagram, expressing his pride: “Georgia State University Graduate Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges… mama I made it! We did it! Class of 2022. Yes, it took a long time, but dammit I made it!”
