Lupita Baltazar became the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a degree in Journalism from California State University, Northridge, while overcoming significant challenges and inspiring others in her community.

Lupita Baltazar, a dedicated student at California State University, Northridge, has made history as the first member of her family to earn a college degree, graduating with a bachelor’s in Journalism and a minor in Spanish language journalism.
Overcoming numerous challenges, Lupita credits her parents, Mexican immigrants who started a street food business in Los Angeles, for inspiring her to work hard and pursue education.
While studying, she helped her parents with their business on weekends, often acting as the English-speaking liaison for customers.
Despite the hardships, including difficult living conditions and the challenges of being a first-generation student, Lupita excelled academically and was recognized by her university for her efforts to support other first-generation students.
Passionate about storytelling and journalism, she also served as president of a Latino Journalists Club, helping guide fellow students. Lupita views her achievement as a way of breaking generational curses and is eager to continue representing and uplifting her community through her work as a journalist.
