Borno Government Closes Schools for Two Weeks Due to Floods

The Borno State Government has closed all public and private primary and secondary schools for two weeks due to severe flooding that has displaced many residents, and has set up a flood emergency response committee to address the situation.

The Borno State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state for two weeks due to widespread flooding that has displaced many residents.

On Monday, the Acting Director of Schools Services, Grema Bulama, announced that the flooding has affected many areas across the state, prompting the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation to close all schools until Monday, September 23.

The statement urged all concerned parties to adhere to the directive and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, appreciating the public’s understanding.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), schools in Borno were initially scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 9, but many are currently occupied by flood-displaced individuals.

In a related incident in the Gwange Ward of Maiduguri, people displaced by floods resisted efforts by government officials to remove them from a school where they have been sheltering since last week.

In response to the flooding crisis, the Borno Government has formed a flood emergency response committee, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijjani.
