Presidential Amnesty Programme Scholarship Student Achieves First Class in Law

Kemien Egbekun, a Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship recipient has graduated with a First Class in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, highlighting the success of the PAP in advancing education and human capital development in the Niger Delta.

Kemien Egbekun, a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) scholarship, graduated with a First Class degree in Law, achieving a CGPA of 4.77 at Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbara-Otor, Delta State.

Two other PAP-sponsored students, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, also excelled with second-class upper division grades in Law from the same university during its 6th convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024.

According to Dr. Charles Ariye, Head of Education at PAP, around 60 PAP-sponsored students have earned first-class degrees in various fields, including electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, chemistry, biochemistry, political science, medical laboratory science, microbiology, and industrial chemistry, between 2016 and 2023, with results for 2024 still pending.

Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, expressed pride in the students’ outstanding academic performances, stating that these achievements reflect the success of the PAP’s educational goals and its broader mandate to advance human capital development in the Niger Delta.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro commended the graduates for making their communities and the nation proud and encouraged current PAP scholarship students to uphold these high standards.

Otuaro attributed these academic successes to the strong support of President Bola Tinubu and emphasized that this aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at promoting sustainable peace, stability, and development in the Niger Delta.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand scholarship opportunities for deserving students, saying, “We are thrilled by the outstanding academic achievements of the PAP scholarship students, which demonstrate that the programme is effectively fulfilling its mandate. We remain committed to enhancing educational and vocational initiatives.”

The Presidential Amnesty Programme, initiated in 2009, seeks to reintegrate former Niger Delta militants who voluntarily disarmed and surrendered to the Federal Government.
