ASR Africa To Build World Class Support Centre For Students With Special Needs In NSUK

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative has disclosed that it will construct a World Class Centre for Special Needs in Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The disclosure was made by Dr. James Lalu when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in her office on Friday 18th October 2024.

Dr. Lalu who is the immediate past Executive Secretary of the National Commission for People Living With Disabilities and currently the Executive Director of Jaslong Consulting Limited explained that in continuation of his contribution to the University, he has approached ASR Foundation and they have signified there interest in constructing, furnishing and equipping the Support Centre for Students with Special Needs in NSUK with State of the art facilities that will enable seamless access to specialised quality education for people with disabilities and special needs . He further explained that the Centre when completed will offer Five specialised Degree Programs for these special people.

In her remarks, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, FELLOW; UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFPN, commended Dr. James Lalu for his commitment and passion for the project even after he has left the National Commission for People Living With Disabilities noting that his efforts will not be vain as posterity will judge him positively. She also thanked the Abdul Samad Rabiu initiative for taking special interest in the project noting that it will bring in many benefits and place the University as Centre for excellence in the provision of quality education for people with special needs.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the State Government has already redeemed the pledge it made in support of the establishment of the Centre during the launch of the program earlier this year which goes to show the priority and commitment that it places on the project. She expressed the University’s unflinching support for the program.

Present at courtesy call were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Theophilus Daniel Lagi, the University Bursar, Mallam Murtala Abubakar Kana, the Director of Physical Planning, Engineer Ahmed Liman, and the Head of Department of Special Education, Dr. Jummai Jerry.
