MAPOLY A’Level Alumnus, Engr. Akanni Awards Scholarship To Best Student, Donate 1 Million Extra To Honor Ex-Teacher

A worthy graduate of Ogun State Polytechnic, 1982 set, Engr. Chief Adeniyi Akanni, has extended a heart of kindness to his alma-mater, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta in honour of his former teacher, Mr. Micheal Oludare Mabadeje.

According to the donor, Mr. Mabadeje was an egalitarian and disciplined Mathematics tutor who had unfiltered interest in the career of his students.

In his words, “the man taught us Geometric, Algebra etc and took likeness in me personally. And when I finished from Ogun Polytechnic in 1982, I had the best in both WAEC and Cambridge in Nigeria. I had AAB and BBB in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with the Mathematics being the strongest.”

“When I got admission to the University of Lagos, I encountered financial challenges of all kinds. When Mr. Mabadeje heard about this, he instructed me to proceed and offered to sponsor my academics. Though, I did not go back to him but the gesture kept me going till today”, he added.

In his response, the Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, lauded the show of kindness demonstrated by Engr. Adeniyi for instituting an award on behalf of his former teacher, who had made indelible impacts on him.

Odedeji, then, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Management, Staff and Students of the Polytechnic for the heart of humanity the donor displayed.

According to him, “The essence of life is not how long but how well and impactful one lives” adding that “Despite the fact that you did not take the kind offer, God still fulfilled Mr. Mabadeje’s gesture in your life”.

At the gathering, Engr. Akanni was moved by the encomium from the Polytechnic and immediately donated additional one million naira scholarship in honor of his late teacher, Mr. Micheal Mabadeje.

The award recipient, Mr. Anuoluwapo Micheal Omosowon was uncontrollably joyous being the overall best student in the department of Statistics & Mathematics.

He explained that, it was unexpected being a Part-time student and self-sponsoring by hustling in the morning before returning for lectures in the afternoon.

The Head of Department, Mr. Busuyi Ogunsanya, while commending the donor on behalf of the Department and School of Science & Technology stated that the award will spur other students and also enhance the Lecturers on friendly approach with the students.

It was reported that Mr. Mabadeje passed on in 1998, may his soul rest on.

“I therefore deemed it worthy on his behalf to reward the best students in Statistics and Mathematics, which was his specialty.”, the donor concluded.

In attendance were the Deputy Rector, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; The Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Elewodalu; the Polytechnic Librarian, Mrs. Akintunde Basirat and the Bursar, Mrs. Madariola Folasade.
