NANS has threatened to shut down FUOYE over allegations of sexual harassment, extortion, and administrative malpractice against the Vice-Chancellor, while investigations and conflicting responses from stakeholders continue.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to shut down the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) if its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, is not suspended over allegations of sexual harassment, extortion, and administrative malpractice.
The allegations, raised by Engr. Folasade Adebayo, a married deputy director in the university’s Directorate of Works and Services, accuse Fasina of making inappropriate advances. NANS Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, warned that students would mobilize nationwide to shut down the university on its convocation day unless the Governing Council takes action.
In response, the Governing Council announced a nine-member committee to investigate the allegations, pledging a transparent and unbiased process. However, Fasina’s legal team and a civil society coalition have dismissed the accusations as baseless, politically motivated, and designed to tarnish the Vice-Chancellor’s reputation.
Fasina’s solicitors, Adegboruwa and Co., emphasized that previous police investigations cleared the VC of all allegations, including sexual harassment and financial impropriety. They criticized media outlets for spreading misinformation without seeking clarification from the university’s management.
NANS, however, maintains that the allegations, if left unaddressed, undermine trust in academic leadership and violate ethical standards. The student body also accused the VC’s administration of extorting students through part-time programs and failing to prioritize affordable education.
The situation remains tense as stakeholders await the findings of the investigative committee.
