The Federal University Dutse (FUD) has announced the appointment of Professor Lawan Shu’aibu as the new Dean of the Faculty of Education.


Professor Shu’aibu brings with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in academia, spanning over twenty-eight years.
Academic and Professional Background
Professor Shu’aibu has an impressive academic background, holding a B.Ed. in Language Arts from Kano State College of Education, an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Ibadan, and a Ph.D. in English Language from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. His academic journey has been marked by a commitment to teaching and research, particularly in the fields of English linguistics and English language education for speakers of English as a second language.
Administrative Experience
Professor Shu’aibu has held several key administrative positions at FUD. He was instrumental in establishing the Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication Studies in 2012 and served as its pioneer coordinator. In 2015, he was appointed Head of the Department of English and Linguistics. From 2016 to 2018, he served as the Deputy Director (Quality Assurance) in the Academic Planning Unit. In 2019, he was appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a position he held until his election as the substantive Dean in 2021.
Contributions to Academia and Unionism
Professor Shu’aibu has been actively involved in academic unionism for over twenty-seven years. He has held various positions, including Public Relations Officer for the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) in Jigawa State and Chairman of the Care-taker Committee for COEASU at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education. He has also served as Convener of the Ethics and Grievances Committee and the Electoral Committee for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at FUD.
Publications and Professional Memberships
Professor Shu’aibu has numerous publications in both national and international journals, as well as several book chapter contributions. He is a registered member of several professional associations, including the Registered Teachers of Nigeria (TRN), the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN), and the Nigeria English Studies Association (NESA).
Professor Lawan Shu’aibu’s appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Education at Federal University Dutse is a testament to his dedication to academia and his extensive experience in both teaching and administration. His leadership is expected to bring significant advancements to the Faculty of Education and the university as a whole.
