Fountain University Becomes First Nigerian University to Compete in Saudi Arabia’s International Arabic Moot.

Fountain University has been selected to participate in the prestigious Riyadh International Dispute Week, organized by the Saudi Arabian Centre for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA). This marks a historic milestone for the university, as it becomes the first and only Nigerian university to participate in the competition.
The SCCA is a renowned international commercial arbitration competition that brings together top universities from around the world. This year’s edition, scheduled to take place in Riyadh from February 23rd to 27th, 2025, will feature 154 teams comprising 994 students from various universities globally.
Fountain University’s participation alludes to its growing reputation as a center of academic excellence, particularly in the field of Common and Islamic Law. The university’s team, to be led by the Head of Department of Common and Islamic Law, Sodiq Mustapha, consisting of three 200-level students – Habeeb Oyewola, Ridwan Ahmad, and Lukman Solih – will compete against teams from top universities worldwide, making it the only West African university to participate in the competition this year.
Receiving the students in her office, the Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, expressed her elation and wished the team well ahead of the competition. “We are extremely proud of our students for this achievement, and we are confident that they will make a strong representation for Fountain University and Nigeria as a whole,” she said.
The SCCA International Arabic Moot provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their skills in international commercial arbitration, with a focus on Arabic language and Islamic law. The competition aims to promote the use of Arabic language in international commercial arbitration and to foster cooperation and exchange among universities and arbitration centers worldwide.
Fountain University’s participation in the SCCA International Arabic Moot is a significant step forward in its efforts to promote academic excellence, cultural exchange, and international cooperation. The university community is eagerly looking forward to the competition and wishes the team all the best as they prepare to take on the challenge.
