NYSC Member Scammed at Computer Village, Receives Fufu Disguised as iPhone

A female NYSC member was scammed at Computer Village in Ikeja after paying for an iPhone but receiving a box of fufu disguised as the phone, prompting viral reactions and renewed concerns about fraud in the area.

A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reportedly fallen victim to a shocking scam at Lagos’ popular tech hub, Computer Village in Ikeja.

The corps member had visited the market to buy an iPhone, but instead of receiving the high-end smartphone she paid for, she was handed a box filled with fufu—a local Nigerian delicacy—cleverly packaged to look like an Apple device.

The bizarre incident surfaced online through a video shared on X (formerly Twitter). In the clip, the visibly distressed woman is seen holding the counterfeit package, surrounded by stunned onlookers reacting with a mix of laughter and disbelief.

The post quickly went viral, sparking a wave of commentary and sympathy from social media users. Here are a few standout reactions:

  • @no1Raver: “Na why I dey advise to hold egusi if you dey enter Computer Village.”

  • @Hey_godwin: “E no go pass Computer Village for Ikeja, she don hear Xr for 82,500.”
  • @y0philp: “Make them just throw bomb put for that Computer Village abeg.”

The video has sparked renewed concern about fraudulent practices at the popular electronics market, where scams like this—though less common today—still occasionally occur.
