Desy Simamora, an Indonesian medical researcher, has secured the prestigious Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) to pursue a Master’s in Medical Science at Yonsei University, specializing in Molecular, Cellular, and Cancer Biology.
Graduating with a Bachelor’s in Industrial Biotechnology and recognized as the best student in her faculty, Simamora’s passion for medical research led her to explore international scholarships. She applied to multiple programs, including Stipendium Hungaricum, Fulbright, MEXT, and GKS, ultimately choosing GKS for its comprehensive support.
Her meticulous application strategy involved extensive research on universities, structured essay writing, strong recommendation letters, and self-studying for IELTS, achieving a 7.5 score. Despite challenges, including an unexpected interview question, her research background and leadership experience strengthened her candidacy.
