UNILORIN Master’s Student Sues Woman for ₦2.5M in Emotional Damages After She Rejected Him

A UNILORIN master’s student sued a woman for ₦2.5 million in emotional damages after she rejected his romantic advances, despite her repeatedly refusing his gifts and money.

A woman has shared her shocking experience after a University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) master’s student filed a ₦2.5 million lawsuit against her, claiming emotional distress and fraud—all because she refused to date him.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she recounted how their interactions began and ultimately led to legal action.

According to her, she met the man while she was a 400-level student at Kwara State University. He expressed romantic interest, but she made it clear she wasn’t interested. Despite her rejection, he continued sending her money and gifts.

Things escalated when she firmly told him she had no romantic feelings for him. Soon after, she received calls from his lawyer and the police, alleging fraud. They even threatened to send an official letter to her university.

However, she was able to clear her name, as their chat history proved she had repeatedly rejected his money and gifts.

Recalling the incident, she wrote:

“The guy is a master’s student at UNILORIN. When we met, I told him he wasn’t my type, but he wouldn’t leave me alone.”

“He kept sending me money and gifts. When I finally told him I had nothing to offer, we stopped talking. Then, out of nowhere, I got a call from the police saying I had been charged with fraud.”

She added that his lawyer also contacted her, accusing her of deception. Fearing legal trouble, she reached out to her brother, who works with the DSS, and their family lawyer. The man had gathered receipts for every amount he had sent her.

Fortunately, her chat records proved she had never requested or accepted money from him willingly. The case was eventually taken to the government house for mediation, where the man insisted she either marry him or face him in court.

Shockingly, he even claimed he had secured a Canadian visa for couples, listing her as his partner without her knowledge.

Explaining how he got her account details in the first place, she wrote:

“He got my account number after helping me pay for food when I had a bank issue. Later, when we went out again, he had a network problem, so I covered the bill. He asked for my account number to refund me—that’s how he got it.”

She emphasized that she had been upfront about her disinterest from the start but had agreed to be friends.
