The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a pastor and two other suspects in connection with the death of 28-year-old Ogubode Adedamola, a graduate of the Lagos State University, while five others are fleeing.
The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a pastor and two additional suspects linked to the death of 28-year-old Ogubode Adedamola, a 2024 graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), while five other suspects remain at large.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The individuals in custody include Pastor Whepetoji Sunday, Sherrif Adebayo, and Omolara Ajisomo. Meanwhile, authorities are actively searching for five others who have escaped.
Initially, police had categorized Adedamola’s situation as a missing person case, dismissing social media speculation regarding possible ritualistic elements. However, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, later confirmed the case has escalated to a suspected murder investigation.
“Following a preliminary inquiry, this is no longer about a missing person, but suspected murder. We are working diligently to recover the body of the deceased and clarify the circumstances leading to his death,” said CP Jimoh.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken charge of the case to ensure a thorough investigation.
“The CP reassures the public of the Command’s commitment to resolving this issue and bringing all involved to justice. Progress has been made, with focused efforts on finding the deceased’s body and determining how he died,” he added.
He also urged the victim’s family, friends, and the student community to remain composed and allow the police the time necessary for a detailed investigation.
Investigators revealed that five suspects accessed funds from Adedamola’s bank account prior to his disappearance. Among these, three have been arrested:
- Pastor Whepetoji Sunday – Received ₦70,000 from the victim’s account.
- Sherrif Adebayo (a church member) – Received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
- Omolara Ajisomo – Arrested for allegedly assisting her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in fleeing to Cotonou, Benin Republic; each of them reportedly received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
The police are actively working to track down the remaining five suspects, including Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, who are believed to have fled to Cotonou.
CP Olohundare Jimoh has pledged that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
“The Command will not relent in its efforts to apprehend all guilty parties. The findings of the investigation will be disclosed to the public to ensure justice is served.”
Ogubode Adedamola, who graduated in Political Science Education, was the owner of a café on campus. He was reported missing on January 16, 2025, before being confirmed deceased.
His tragic death has ignited outrage among students and the wider community, sparking calls for prompt justice.
