The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has approved the promotion of 14 academics to the rank of professor and 10 to the rank of associate professor.


According to a statement issued by the Registrar of FULafia and Secretary of the Governing Council, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, the decision to promote the academics was made at the 22nd Regular Meeting of the University’s Governing Council which held from March 19 to 20, 2025.
Among those promoted to the rank of professor are: Dr. Adam Al-Amin Abdullahi of the Department of English Language, Dr. Solomon Maigari Manzuche of Industrial Design, Dr. Imam Akeyede of Department of Statistics, Dr. Hassan Isiaka Imam of Department of Criminology, Dr. Abdullahi Jaji of Department Agronomy, and Dr. Stephen Nnaemeka Azom of Political Science Department.
Others include: Dr. Abimbola Oladiran Johnson, who was promoted to rank of professor in the Department of Physics, Dr. Muhammad Alkali, promoted to the rank of professor of Entrepreneurship, Dr. Shekwonyadu Iyakwari, a professor of in the Department of Geology, Dr. Okoli Chukwuemeka Albert, now a professor of Security Governance, Dr. Adaka Terfa Ahon, now a professor of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation Science, Dr. Kyegh Aov Thadeus, promoted to the rank of professor of History and International Studies and Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, now a professor of Geography.
Those promoted to the rank of associate professor include: Dr. Ugwoke Chukwudili Walter and Dr. Aye-Agele Freeman, both of the Department of Economics, Dr. Olukayode Olugbenga Orole, Department of Microbiology, Dr. Akpomie Timothy Marhiere, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Imam Ahmed Yusuf, Arabic Studies and Dr. Ugwu Anthony Chinedu, Department of Political Science.
Others are: Dr. Esther Anenge Gbaden and Dr. Eke Chijioke Chinwoku, both of Sociology Department, Dr. Abdullahi Dauda, Business Administration, and Dr. Otto-Agede Blossom Shimayam of the English Department and Literary Studies.
The Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has since congratulated the newly promoted academics on behalf of the council, urging them to remain committed to excellence in teaching and research.
The statement said that Abdul Rahman has emphasised that their elevation came with great responsibilities, saying: “I am confident that you’ll embrace the challenges and responsibilities wholeheartedly.”
