Jubilation as FG Begins Payment of N77,000 Monthly Allowance to NYSC Members

The Federal Government has begun paying the new N77,000 monthly allowance to NYSC members, fulfilling its promise under the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 after previous delays.

The Federal Government has officially commenced the payment of the new N77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling a promise made by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu.

This development follows the government’s commitment to implementing the increased stipend starting in March 2025. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also assured corps members that any backlog from the new payment structure would be cleared.

Reports indicate that several corps members have already started receiving credit alerts reflecting the updated allowance. Chinedu, a corps member serving in Lagos, expressed excitement over the increase, stating, “I just checked my account balance, and I saw N77,000 credited from the Federal Government. This is a huge relief.”

Jeremiah Olatinwo, publisher of Corpers Diary (@corpersdiary_ng), an online platform for corps members, confirmed the payments, saying, “Yes, corps members have started receiving their new allowance in line with the newly approved minimum wage.”

The Federal Government initially announced the allowance increase in September 2024, aligning it with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. However, despite widespread anticipation, the implementation faced multiple setbacks due to administrative and financial delays.

With the commencement of payments, corps members nationwide are now set to benefit from the long-awaited increment, providing much-needed financial relief to participants in the youth service scheme.
