Twelve Teachers Receive N2.4m Endowment from NGO

The Grooming Endowment Trust (GET), through its Teachers Appreciation Programme (TAP), has awarded N2.4 million to twelve exceptional teachers across Nigeria to recognize their impact in underserved communities and support their professional growth.

For the second consecutive year, the Grooming Endowment Trust (GET) has recognized and rewarded outstanding teachers across Nigeria through its Teachers Appreciation Programme (TAP), an initiative dedicated to celebrating educators who make a significant impact in underserved communities. This year, the programme disbursed a total of N2.4 million to twelve deserving recipients.

The TAP initiative seeks not only to acknowledge the selfless efforts of teachers working in challenging environments but also to empower them through financial support that addresses both personal and professional needs. The programme underscores the importance of investing in the people who shape future generations, especially those operating in difficult and resource-constrained conditions.

Chikezie Ugwu, Operations Lead at GET, described teachers as the “backbone of society”, pointing out that their commitment often goes unrecognized despite the critical roles they play in nation-building. He explained that TAP is part of GET’s broader mission to promote social equity, reduce educational disparity, and uplift teachers who are often on the frontline of change in their communities.

“By supporting teachers financially, we are giving them the capacity to do more, to be more innovative in their classrooms, and to reach more students with quality education,” Ugwu said.

Following a rigorous application process that included thorough screening, multiple evaluation stages, and interviews conducted by an independent panel, 12 teachers were selected from various states across the country. Each awardee received a grant of N200,000, which they can use to improve their teaching tools, further their education, or support classroom projects that benefit their students.

The 2025 TAP Awardees:

  • Adeola Akinsulure – Omole Senior Grammar School, Lagos
  • Shulammite Aremo – Surulere Senior Secondary School, Lagos
  • Chiamaka Osueke – Government Science and Technical College, Bayelsa
  • Emmanuel Momoh – Government Secondary School, Yashikira, Kwara
  • Taiwo Alabi – Ikorodu Junior Grammar School, Lagos
  • Abraham Nogobiri – Federal Government College, Enugu
  • Togbe Ganiyu – Owiwi Community Nursery and Primary School, Ogun
  • Akeem Badru – St. Michael R.C.M School, Ogun
  • Uzomah Uzomah – Obeagu Community Secondary School, Ebonyi
  • Blessing Akila – ECWA Secondary School, Benue
  • Abu Sarah – Ohr Kyahim Academy, Kaduna
  • Osasumwen Erhabor – Anglican Girls Grammar School, Edo

The recipients expressed heartfelt appreciation to GET for the recognition and support, stating that the funding would go a long way in addressing immediate classroom needs such as textbooks, learning aids, furniture, and teaching technology. Many also mentioned that the grant would allow them to participate in workshops, certification programmes, and other forms of continuing education, which would improve both their teaching quality and student outcomes.

This initiative by GET continues to set a positive precedent for how non-governmental organizations can partner with educators to foster sustainable change in the education sector, particularly in under-resourced areas where motivation and support are often lacking. As the programme grows, it offers hope that more teachers will be empowered to reach their full potential—and, in doing so, help their students achieve theirs.
