JAMB has cleared Basola Jamiu, a FUTA graduate wrongly accused of having a fake admission, and resolved over 4,000 similar cases, sparking widespread criticism of systemic failures in Nigeria’s education system.

Basola Jamiu Owodunni, a Civil Engineering graduate from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has finally been exonerated by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) after his admission was initially flagged as fake—even though he had graduated with an impressive CGPA of 4.41.
The update was shared by education advocate Alex Onyia, who confirmed that Jamiu’s records have now been validated. He has regained access to his JAMB portal and is expected to be mobilized for the next batch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Onyia also disclosed that over 4,000 students nationwide who encountered similar issues with their admission records have had their cases resolved by JAMB as well.
“The good news is that it has been resolved. He can now access his JAMB portal and will be going for NYSC in the next batch. In addition, 4,000+ students facing the same issue have been cleared,” Onyia stated.
Reactions on Social Media
The announcement has triggered a wave of reactions online, with many criticizing systemic failures in Nigeria’s education system:
- @majorlouwe commented:
“Did you say 4,000 more students? JAMB is the weapon fashioned against Nigerian students. The ‘village people’ everyone fears is right inside JAMB. A total institutional failure.” - @donald_segun expressed outrage:
“This happened because someone failed to do their job. Basola was treated like a criminal due to a lazy, negligent civil servant. The real tragedy is that no one will be held accountable. He could’ve harmed himself over this.” - @Irishkreamy added humorously:
“Village people don lose this fight.”
This case has reignited debate around transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s admission process, with many calling for systemic reforms to prevent future occurrences.
