Northwest University Kano Matriculates 7,570 Students, Hosts TETFund Northwestern Zone Delegation

Northwest University Kano marked a historic milestone as it matriculated 7,570 newly admitted students into various academic programmes across its eight faculties in a colourful ceremony held at the Muhammadu Sanusi Theatre, Main Campus.

The event drew an impressive turnout of fresh students, proud families, and members of the academic community, all gathered to witness the formal induction of the new intakes into the university system.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, warmly welcomed the new students and offered them fatherly counsel on the importance of dedication to their studies and upholding the values of integrity and discipline. He urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of the institution and avoid any form of misconduct during their stay at the university.

Delivering his remarks with a touch of emotion, Professor Kurawa noted that this matriculation ceremony was particularly significant to him, as it would be his last as Vice Chancellor before the end of his tenure in October 2025. He also expressed optimism that the number of matriculating students would increase significantly by next academic session when all the newly approved academic programmes, ranging from specialised medical sciences to public administration, fully commence. “You are not just students; you are the future we are building. Hold fast to your dreams, respect the rules, and be committed to your growth,” he advised.

The ceremony was graced by all principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), the Registrar, University Librarian, Bursar, Deans of Faculties, and Heads of Departments.

Immediately after the matriculation, Professor Kurawa led the university management in hosting a delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Northwestern Zone, who were on a familiarization visit to discuss ongoing and potential interventions in the institution.

The delegation, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Turaki, a Board Member representing the Northwestern Zone, engaged in discussions with the management on pending issues regarding infrastructure, research, and other developmental priorities. The TETFund team outlined new lines of intervention, which include:

  1. Disaster Recovery Intervention
  2. Security Intervention
  3. Distress Intervention
  4. Tricycle Intervention
  5. Tertiary Institution Support Fund Intervention

The visit concluded with an inspection tour of the TETFund-sponsored student hostel project on the Main Campus, where the delegation assessed the level of work done and deliberated on the next steps to expedite completion.
