Ebonyi University VC Denies Allegations of Illegal Vehicle Sales

The Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, denied allegations of illegally selling the university’s vehicles, clarifying that asset management follows proper procedures and urging the public to disregard misinformation.

The Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, has dismissed allegations made by Chika Nwobasi, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of selling off the university’s utility vehicles.

Speaking at a press conference on the university campus, Prof. Ogbu clarified that he has never considered selling any university property, including vehicles, and described the claims as false and baseless.

He urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media, assuring stakeholders that the institution’s assets are managed according to proper protocols. He emphasized that the university remains committed to creating a conducive environment for learning and research, with resources being used responsibly for the benefit of students and staff.

Addressing a specific claim, the VC explained, “I did not sell any Tipper, as alleged by Chika Nwoba. Our Tipper was stolen but was later recovered with the help of the police, and investigations are ongoing.”

Prof. Ogbu further elaborated on the university’s auctioning procedures, stating that only unserviceable items are considered for auction after thorough review by a statutory board of survey. This board, led by a senior professor with representatives from different departments, typically takes six months to compile a list of such items.

He added that the final list goes through multiple levels of approval and is made public for a period to allow interested bidders to inspect the items. Auctions are conducted transparently, with public bidding announced in advance.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, the VC encouraged the university community to stay focused on academic excellence and not be distracted by unfounded rumors.

In addition, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Professor Chika Nwafor, disclosed that the university driver raised an alarm after an articulated vehicle was illegally towed by unknown individuals from the mechanic village, further emphasizing the institution’s vigilance in asset management.
