Abia Varsity dismisses lecturers involved in s*x-for-grade, admission racketeering

The authorities of Abia State University, ABSU, have dismissed the lecturer who was involved in s*x-for-grade and another who was involved in admission racketeering.

Dr. Michael I. Ukaegbu, a senior lecturer at the university from the Department of Mass Communication, was sacked over his involvement in sex-for-grades.

Dr. Ukaegbu allegedly committed the crime during his tenure as the acting head of the Mass Communication Department.

Mr. Leonard Chukwuma, another staff at the university, was also sacked for fraud and involvement in admission racketeering.

Their sack was approved by the University’s Council at its 148th regular and resumed meetings held on Thursday, 16th and Monday, 20th December 2021.

The Council in a communique, signed by the Registrar/Secretary to Council, Dr Acho Elendu, said “Council-in-Session ratified the dismissal of Dr Michael I. Ukaegbu, former Ag. Head, Department of Mass Communication for involvement in sex-for-grade and Mr Leonard Chukwuma for fraud and admission racketeering”.

The Council resolved that henceforth the University would sanction staff who fail to return to the University and fulfil other obligations of their contractual agreement on completion of their TETFund sponsored academic development programmes
