Kano Emir Sanusi Returns to Classroom, Begins Law Degree at Northwest University

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has returned to school as a 200-level law student at Northwest University, Kano, in a move widely praised as a powerful example of lifelong learning.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has resumed academic life as a 200-level student in the Law Faculty of Northwest University, Kano. He attended classes on Tuesday, wearing his trademark regal attire, a black flowing gown paired with a white turban, alongside other undergraduates.

Sanusi’s enrollment follows the university’s decision to grant him special admission into its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Common and Sharia Law, recognizing his vast background in governance, economics, and public service. Northwest University, founded in 2012, is one of the two state-owned universities in Kano.

Despite being a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a PhD holder, Sanusi has consistently promoted education, social reform, and intellectual discourse. His decision to return to the classroom reinforces his reputation as an advocate of lifelong learning and a leading public intellectual in Nigeria.

Sanusi’s presence on campus generated excitement among students, who described the moment as historic and motivating. One student remarked, “Seeing someone of his status sitting in class with us reminds us that learning never truly ends”.

The Emir’s return to school has sparked conversations across social media, with many praising his commitment to education. His pursuit of a law degree showcases his belief in the power of knowledge and continuous learning.

Sanusi’s academic journey is a testament to the importance of lifelong learning, regardless of one’s achievements or status.
