Cursory: The relocation of LAUTECH’s Faculty of Agriculture has caused s disagreement between two different local governments because it was co-owned by the states of Oyo and Osun. According to reports, Ogbomoso and Iseyin people are at a log ahead over the relocation of the institution’s Faculty of Agriculture. Ogbomoso indegenes are arguing that the governor should instead build new faculties for the new campus .

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Faculty of Agriculture relocated from Ogbomoso to Iseyin, but the incident is yet to be forgotten and there are still controversies surrounding it. LAUTECH is one of the tertiary institutions that is owned by the Oyo State government.Since he was the former Premier of the Western Region, it was given the name Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola.
The states of Oyo and Osun shared ownership and control of the institution until a few years ago. The Oyo state government has been in charge of it ever since. The agriculture faculty would be housed in a LAUTECH building that Governor Seyi Makinde just erected in Iseyin town, according to the DAILY POST.
The College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resource’s Iseyin campus is located along the Iseyin-Okeho route.Ogbomoso and Iseyin’s people are divided about the recent development.Natives of Ogbomoso are opposing the plan, arguing that the governor should instead develop new faculties for the Iseyin campus than transfer the ones that are already there.
During a recent protest, organized by the LAUTECH chapter of the Federation of Ogbomoso Students Union (FOGSU), students from Ogbomoso voiced their thoughts. The indigenous people stated that they weren’t protesting the building of the Iseyin campus but rather the transfer of the instructors there, and a few commercial motorbike riders joined them in their demonstration.
“So, let them begin entirely new faculties at Iseyin whether agriculture or any other. But moving an existing one in LAUTECH should not be contemplated. We are pleading with the government”.
A 500-level Urban and Regional Planning student, Adeniran Timilehin Samuel, in his own contribution, described the faculty as the oldest in the institution.
He said:
“This is one of the longest existing faculties in LAUTECH, it is a cardinal faculty. It is holding over 10,000 students, so how possible will a government seek to move it away.
“So as students and indigenes, we are expressing concern this should not be done. It is like seeking to end LAUTECH in Ogbomoso.
“They say they want to establish new faculties. Why can’t they establish those in Iseyin? Why must you take an existing one away when a new one can be established there? Let them rather go and start the new faculties in Iseyin. We had tried to engage the authorities in the past both at the state and LAUTECH levels but we were rebuffed. This is not a popular decision.
“At Iseyin campus they don’t have facilities, no accommodation, no hostels, there is even the problem of insecurity. Governor Makinde should reconsider his stand.”
