BUK Dress Code Committee Issues Important Notice to Students

BUK Dress Code Committee Issues Important Notice to Students.

The Dress Code Committee of Bayero University, Kano has released an important notice reminding students to strictly comply with the University’s Dress Code Policy across all campuses.

According to the committee, recent observations show that some students have not been adhering to the approved dress guidelines within university premises, including lecture rooms, laboratories, theatres, and examination halls. The committee emphasized that proper dressing is mandatory and forms part of the University’s regulations.

The notice outlines several forms of dressing considered inappropriate on campus. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Short or revealing dresses
  • Transparent and tight-fitting outfits
  • Shorts (except for sporting activities)
  • Ripped or holey jeans
  • Clothing that exposes sensitive parts of the body
  • Wearing singlets, boxers or sleeveless clothing in public
  • Dresses that hinder the use of laboratory coats during practicals
  • Skirts above the knee

The committee also frowned at:

  • Cross-dressing
  • T-shirts and vests with obscene or indecent inscriptions
  • Unbuttoned dresses exposing the chest
  • The use of jackboots (except for protection)
  • Sunglasses or goggles in lecture rooms unless on medical grounds
  • Dreadlocks for male students
  • Plaited or weaved hair and earrings worn by male students
  • Tattoos
  • Multicoloured hairstyles for female students

Students were reminded that these rules apply across the entire campus, except within the privacy of their hostel rooms. They are also expected to observe any additional dress codes stipulated by their respective faculties, departments, or professional bodies.

The University Dress Code Committee urged all students to take note of the guidelines and comply fully to maintain decorum and uphold the values of the institution.
