GOMSU Reappoints Prof Danladi Mohammed Umar as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration)

Gombe State university, GOMSU reappoints Prof Danladi Mohammed Umar as deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

The Governing Council of Gombe State University, at its 60th meeting held on 9 April 2026, has approved the reappointment of Professor Danladi Mohammed Umar as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

The appointment is for a final term of two years and is effective retroactively from 14 February 2026.

Professor Umar is a distinguished Professor of Freshwater Ecology and a respected consultant in environmental research. He earned his B.Sc. (Ed) in Biology in 1987 and an M.Sc. in Fisheries and Hydrobiology in 1990 from the University of Jos. He later obtained his PhD in Freshwater Ecology in 2014 from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Within the university system, he has served with distinction in several strategic leadership positions, including:

  • Head of the Department of Biological Sciences
  • Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science
  • Deputy Director of Research and Development
  • Senate Representative in the Governing Council

Beyond the university, Professor Umar serves as the Director of the Nigerian Montane Forest Project, Mambilla Plateau. This project is a collaborative linkage between the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Gombe State University. He has also contributed significantly to national research development initiatives and external academic engagements.

The Council noted that his reappointment reflects their confidence in his proven administrative capacity, leadership experience, and unwavering dedication to the continued growth of Gombe State University.

The university community congratulates Professor Umar on his well-deserved reappointment and wishes him continued success in his service to the institution.
