Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has stepped up plans to establish a Medical School, rallying global support from medical professionals and partners as it hosted the third edition of its Global Town Hall Meeting on the proposed project.

Convener of the Town Hall initiative, Dr. Oluropo Ojo, disclosed that the university has attracted a growing network of volunteer medical experts across the diaspora, many of whom have pledged to offer specialist training and services at no cost.
Dr. Ojo who is of the Lincoln Medical School, United Kingdom, added that prospective donors have also signalled readiness to supply critical medical equipment immediately the programme takes off.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Philip Oguntunde, paid glowing tribute to the Founder, Chief Michael Ade. Ojo, for what he described as his “enduring, selfless investment” in the university’s growth.
He noted that both the institution and the nation stand to benefit immensely from the establishment of the Medical School, adding that the university community is eagerly anticipating its commencement.
Providing an update on regulatory readiness, the Registrar, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, confirmed that the Medical School curriculum has been fully developed and is currently undergoing review, while preparations are in advanced stages for the National Universities Commission’s resource verification visit.
On infrastructure and clinical capacity, the Chief Medical Director of the University Medical Centre, Dr. Lanre Olatunde, expressed strong confidence in the institution’s preparedness.
He noted that the facility is already equipped with high-grade, state-of-the-art medical equipment, some of which are scarcely available in Nigeria, thus positioning it favourably for the take-off of the programme.
Also speaking, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Alice Ogundele, described the initiative as a transformative leap for the university’s health sciences ecosystem. She emphasised that the proposed Medical School would significantly strengthen existing programmes, including Nursing, and broaden training opportunities in critical healthcare disciplines.
With global partnerships, regulatory processes, and infrastructure rapidly aligning, stakeholders affirmed that Elizade University is poised to deliver a major boost to medical education and healthcare manpower development in Nigeria.
