Meet UNILORIN’s Youngest Professor at 38

At just 38 years old, Professor Lukman Abdulrauf has become the youngest professor at the University of Ilorin, earning recognition for his internationally acclaimed research in data privacy, artificial intelligence governance, digital constitutionalism, and technology law.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has spotlighted Professor Lukman Abdulrauf as its youngest professor, recognizing his remarkable achievements in the fields of law, technology, and governance.

Professor Abdulrauf serves in the Department of Public Law at UNILORIN, where his teaching and research focus on issues at the intersection of law and emerging technologies. His key areas of expertise include data privacy, artificial intelligence governance, digital constitutionalism, and comparative constitutional law, particularly within African legal systems.

Beyond Nigeria, he holds academic affiliations as an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Law, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and as a Research Fellow at the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa, University of Pretoria.

Over the years, he has participated in prestigious international research programmes, including fellowships at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences and the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study in South Africa. His research has explored digital governance, human rights, and institutional development in emerging democracies.

His scholarly work has attracted international funding, including participation as a Co-Investigator on a project funded by the United States National Institutes of Health. The project examined the ethical, legal, and social implications of using genomic data in health research across African countries.

According to the university, his research contributes significantly to discussions on data governance, technology regulation, privacy rights, AI governance, digital constitutionalism, and platform accountability in Africa and beyond.

Professor Abdulrauf also serves on the editorial board of International Data Privacy Law, a leading journal published by Oxford University Press focusing on data protection and information law.

Recently, he completed a fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Freiburg, Germany, where he conducted research on digital constitutionalism and AI governance in Africa.

Born on February 23, 1987, Abdulrauf attained the rank of professor at the age of 38, making him the youngest professor at the University of Ilorin and one of the youngest in Nigeria.
