Abia Reschedules School Resumption to September 23

The Abia State government has postponed the school resumption date to September 23, 2024, due to a public holiday.

The Abia State government has announced a new resumption date for schools in the state for the 2024/2025 academic year, now set for Wednesday, September 23.

Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed this change during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti. The decision to postpone the initial resumption date of Monday, September 16, was due to a national public holiday on that day.

Additionally, Kanu stated that the state’s teacher training program will restart from September 11 to 20, 2024, targeting the remaining batch of 1,800 master trainers. He noted that this initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to revamp the education sector and is a key component of the protocol for the upcoming school year.

“It should be noted that 200 teachers were trained last week, and this upcoming session will take place across three locations: Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia,” Kanu said.

Furthermore, the commissioner disclosed that Abia has been chosen as one of six states to participate in an international medical symposium in Ghana. The event, themed ‘Human Capital Opportunity for Prosperity and Equity,’ is an initiative of the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery. Kanu attributed Abia’s selection to the state government’s focus and reforms in the health sector.
