ABSU Council Approves 16 Professors, 11 Readers, Promises Improved Welfare and Facilities

The Abia State University, ABSU Governing Council assured staff and students of improved welfare and approved the promotion of 16 professors and 11 readers

The Governing Council of Abia State University, has assured Staff and Students of the University of improved welfare, to ensure seamless and excellent delivery in Teaching, Research and Community Service, in line with the New Abia Policy of the Governor and Visitor to the University, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

Speaking at the 157th Regular/Inaugural meeting of the newly constituted Governing Council, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, appreciated the Governor and Visitor to the University, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR for the composition of the Governing Council, with eminent scholars, tested and trusted professionals and technocrats. He promised that the Governing Council, under his watch, will work assiduously to improve the standard and rating of the University, in the comity of Universities in Nigeria and beyond.

Council directed the full implementation of the White Paper Report of the Full Visitation Panel to the University and relocation of the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Agriculture to Uturu main campus, as directed by the State Government.

Council had earlier embarked on familiarization visits to Umuahia location, College of Medicine, Aba and Uturu main campus, including inspection of facilities at the students hostels, the first of its kind by any Governing Council in the University.

Council noted the deplorable state of the students hostels and University environment and promised to tackle the challenges, as appropriate.

Council commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo and Management of the University for their tremendous work so far done since assumption of office on 1st November, 2024.

Highlights of the meeting were the State of the University Report, as presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo and approval for the promotions of some senior academics to the rank of Professors and Readers, as follows:
