A former student of the Ahmadu Bello University and record-holding best graduating student by the name of Nuhu Ibrahim has completed an MSc in Advanced Computer Science with specialization in artificial intelligence at the University of Manchester with a distinction and an overall score of 84%.


Nuhu Ibrahim who hails from Kaduna South local government area in Kaduna State presented his masters dissertation supervised by Dr Riza Batista-Navarro at the 8th international conference on Information Management and Big data (SIMBig – Data Science – Peru 2021).
This comes a day after the dissertation was awarded a distinction with 81%, completing the requirements for award of MSc Advanced Computer Science with Specialisation in Artificial Intelligence.
The significant contribution of his dissertation titled “Automatic Detection of Deaths from Social Networking Sites” is the successful development of a machine learning approach for the distinction between pre-mortem and postmortem online posts of concerned followers associated with social networking sites profiles to detect deaths automatically.
Reacting to this new feat, Nuhu Ibrahim appreciates everyone who has reiterated that they are proud of him.
He said, “Thanks to everyone who has reiterated that they are proud of me. I am so proud of myself, seeing how I come out victorious in the face of numerous challenges and unfavourable circumstances. Having to study online from home while lacking requisite resources like constant electricity and convenient study environment , to working part-time in an award-winning financial technology company, NetPay Solutions Group Limited during my masters to gain the sought for UK-working experience.
“I am excited for ‘indeed, what is come is better’ for me ‘what has gone by’ – Qur’an (93:4). Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds- Qur’an (1:2).”
Recall that Nuhu Ibrahim became an internet sensation in 2019 when he bagged a bachelor of science degree in computer science with final CGPA of 4.94 out of 5.00 – the highest ever recorded in the history of ABU since its establishment in 1962.
He was subsequently awarded a full scholarship by the Kaduna State government to study in the University of Manchester.
Meanwhile the official graduation ceremony of the University of Manchester scheduled to hold on December 15th, 2021 has been postponed until March/April 2022 due to the introduction of the UK’s government’s plan B guidance for COVID-19 and the growing concerns about the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
