Adeleke University Strongly Denied MURIC’s Claims of Religious Discrimination on Campus.

It has come to the knowledge of the Administration of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State the publication from the Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola alleging that “Adeleke University is persecuting Muslim Students in Adeleke University by not allowing them to observe Salat and making it mandatory for students living in the hostel to attend church every Wednesday and Saturday”.
Adeleke University Administration strongly condemns MURIC’s distorted and misleading publication and pleads with the general public to disregard these claims.
While we censure in its strongest terms the intention of this publication, we want the general public to know that Adeleke University, though a Christian faith-based institution of higher learning, is open to people of other faiths. We have high-ranking officers of the university who are Muslims and the number of Muslim students on our campus is quite significant.
On Fridays, three of our coaster buses convey Muslim students to the Alhaaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Mosque in Ede town, where they observe their prayers, after finishing light refreshments are served to them back on campus.
During the Ramadan, the University Cafeteria makes a special arrangement to ensure that food is served to Muslim students very early in the morning and also, their food is made available in the evening after the fast. During the Week of Revival (a one week spiritual programme for all staff and students on campus), Muslim students are given fruits, water and light refreshments to break their Ramadan fast in the evening for the one week.
Therefore, this malicious claims by MURIC is a calculated attempt aimed at tarnishing the good corporate image of Adeleke University. To buttress this point, the Muslim Students Association, Adeleke University Chapter and other Muslim stakeholders in Adeleke University, Ede and Osun State, who are familiar and knowledgeable of what is happening in Adeleke Adeleke have debunked and strongly condemned the publication by MURIC.
We want to plead with the Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, to henceforth, desist from levelling baseless allegations on Adeleke University and her Management and focus on the University’s efforts to promote quality education and inclusivity. Adeleke University remains the only private University in Nigeria where more than half of the student population are on the proprietor’s scholarship scheme (including Muslim students).
We want to reassure all our parents, students, and stakeholders of our unwavering commitment to maintaining religious tolerance and unity in diversity as enshrined in our university’s core values.
Thank you.
