Lukman Abiodun Olawale overcame significant financial hardships, including his father borrowing money to fund his education, to graduate with a first-class degree in Physics Energy from FUTA, achieving a CGPA of 4.62 and aspiring to advance in scientific research.

A determined Nigerian man, Lukman Abiodun Olawale, has graduated with a first-class degree in Physics Energy from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), achieving an impressive CGPA of 4.62.
Lukman’s journey to academic success was marked by significant financial hardships. In an interview with Legit NG, he revealed how his father’s selfless decision to borrow money during his third year of university kept his education on track. Despite facing severe financial constraints that left him without food or transportation and caused health issues like ulcers, Lukman remained resolute. His father’s unwavering support became a turning point, inspiring him to persevere.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Lukman shared how he transformed from an average junior secondary school student into an exceptional scholar in senior secondary school through curiosity and hard work. One of his key strategies was his proactive approach in the classroom. “I strive to understand at least 60% of the material being taught before the end of each lecture by asking questions about new concepts in mathematics, physics, and chemistry,” he explained.
Lukman emphasized that academic excellence is attainable for anyone, regardless of natural ability. “Each individual is unique, and different methods work for different people,” he said, encouraging students to discover study strategies that align with their strengths.
In his third year, financial struggles reached a peak, leaving Lukman on the verge of quitting. However, through determination and his father’s sacrifices, he continued his studies. His hard work was rewarded in his fourth year when he won the NEAR Foundation Scholarship, which alleviated his financial challenges and allowed him to focus entirely on his academics.
Lukman’s dedication to his studies did not stop him from leading a balanced life. He participated in extracurricular activities like football, chess, and video games, which helped him manage stress and stay motivated.
Looking ahead, Lukman aspires to become a researcher in Climate Science, Material Science, or Quantum Science, aiming to contribute to the advancement of human civilization. His inspiring journey underscores the power of resilience, hard work, and family support in overcoming life’s challenges.
