AFIT Inducts 400 Engineering Graduands Into NSE

The Air Force Institute of Technology, today, 11 January 2025, inducted 400 engineering graduates into the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

The induction ceremony was a confirmation of the enormous contributions of the University to the manpower development of Nigeria in the field of technology. According to the Provost, Professor Auwal Kasim, AFIT was primarily established 40 years ago to support the technical and logistics needs of the Nigerian Air Force. However, its upgrade to a university status in 2017 facilitated the infusion of seasoned military and civilian intellectuals in the field of technology into the training of young Nigerians in both theory and practice. He disclosed that the induction was to formerly initiate the 2024 AFIT Engineering graduands into the world of Engineering practice by the relevant regulatory agencies namely NSE and COREN.

The inductees graduated from the departments of Aerospace, Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Others included Electrical and Electronics, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Information and Communication Technology as well as Telecommunications Engineering. The Institute with a student population of over 7,500, as stated by Professor Kasim, is “increasingly becoming the University of choice to teeming Nigerians as attested to by the intense competition of securing admission.” He added that AFIT “is also the best University in terms of national spread as attested to by JAMB. In terms of academic stability, AFIT programmes run seamlessly without any encumbrances.”

Earlier, the President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr Professor Sadiq Abubakar, disclosed that nearly 70 universities offer engineering education in Nigeria with over 23 different programmes resulting in the production of at least 10,000 engineering students every academic session in the various fields. Professor Abubakar assured AFIT of COREN’s resolve to maintain the attainment of the Washington Afford benchmark in University system and Sydney Accord benchmark in the Polytechnics in Nigeria. It would be recalled that AFIT is both a university and a polytechnic. The best graduating inductee who passed out with a first class and Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.99, Winner O Oluwole, received prizes from AFIT and NSE. Other highlights of the event included presentation of awards to deserving male and female inductees, members of the academic staff and some AFIT management. Staff.
