Another 12 Schools At Risk Of Collapse – Plateau Governor

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed that 12 additional schools in Jos are at risk of collapse and has inaugurated a Technical Committee to investigate the recent collapse of Saints Academy, which resulted in over 24 fatalities, while emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed that approximately 12 additional schools in the state capital, Jos, are at risk of collapse.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized the urgency of the situation as he inaugurated a Technical Committee to investigate the recent collapse of the Saints Academy Jos building, a two-story structure that resulted in over 24 fatalities and numerous injuries.

During the committee’s inauguration at the Twin Theatre, New Government House Little Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang urged the committee to thoroughly investigate the causes of the collapse and assess the responsibilities of all individuals involved in the building’s construction and maintenance.

He explained that understanding the reasons behind the incident is crucial for preventing similar tragedies in the future. “We must understand why this incident occurred, identify any lapses in duty, and implement measures to prevent a recurrence,” he stated.

The governor expressed his commitment to enforcing stringent measures to ensure the safety and integrity of buildings across the state, highlighting the importance of safeguarding innocent lives. “The loss of 24 children is a grave reminder of the urgency of our mission,” he said.

Additionally, Governor Mutfwang directed the Secretary to the State Government to expand the committee’s mandate to include the burnt Jos Main Market, where reports indicate that the remaining structure is also at risk of collapse.
