Sister to Nigerian Star Graduates With First Class From ‘Hot Department’ With Excellent Result

Cursory: The Biological Star to Nigerian’s Football Star graduated with an excellent grade. She graduated with a first class honors with a first class from one of the most sought-after departments.

Asisat Oshoala has become a topic of discussion due to the diverse reactions over her celebratory style after scoring against Australia in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Nigerian footballer comes from a devout Muslim family, and her sister, Sherifat, was seen wearing a hijab during her graduation ceremony at the University of Lagos.

Sherifat’s dedication to her studies earned her a First Class Degree in Mass Communication, where she topped the Broadcast Class.

During the 51st convocation of the University of Lagos in 2021, Sherifat was one of the 281 students who graduated with a first-class honor and achieved an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.60 out of a possible five points.

She credits her family, including her strict and committed father, and her elder sister, a professional footballer, for inspiring her to excel.

“I am also inspired by my fastidious and devout late mother, my no-nonsense father, and my elder sister who is a pro-footballer. Their drive and self-belief to be the best at what they do motivate me a lot.”

Sherifat shared that she found moral and spiritual support through her involvement in the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), particularly the Mass Communication chapter at the University of Lagos.

Regular meetings after prayers, discussions about self-discovery, and staying true to her faith provided her with the motivation to balance her pursuit of academic excellence with her religious practices.

“So, MSSN was the organization that helped me with that moral and spiritual support. I was an active member of the Mass communication chapter (Unilag Muslim communicators). I remember attending a weekly meeting after every Jumaat.

“We talked about finding yourself if you’re getting lost or derailing while chasing the best.

“There is this constant reminder that you have to have a relationship with Allah, you have to do the right things as regards the Deen, and also it was really good being part of the organisation while in school. I didn’t get blinded by the pursuit of an ambition to get a good result and forget to pray.”

Her dedication to her studies and her spiritual grounding contributed to her outstanding academic achievements, and she appreciates the support and guidance she received from her family and the MSSN during her time at the university.
