ASUU commended a UNIZIK lecturer for his professionalism after being assaulted by a student, supported the university’s decision to expel her, and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its members.


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has released a statement addressing the viral video of a female student from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) assaulting a lecturer after he interrupted her video recording.
Following the incident, the university management set up a disciplinary committee, which led to the expulsion of the student, Precious Mbakwe.
In its statement, ASUU commended the lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, for his maturity and professionalism during the confrontation. The union also praised the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Okoye, for his decisive action, reaffirming ASUU’s commitment to protecting its members and ensuring a conducive learning environment.
