Joy Osesanmi has achieved an outstanding academic feat, graduating with a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with a remarkable CGPA of 4.81. This achievement is historic, as she recorded the highest CGPA ever attained in the Department of Geology and Geophysics, breaking a long-standing departmental record.
Joy’s academic journey at OAU began in 2019, but she faced challenges, including struggling with a course she didn’t love and narrowly missing a First Class in her first year. However, a conversation with a trusted senior reshaped her mindset, and she committed herself to academic excellence.
Her hard work paid off, with three semesters of 5.0 GPA, two semesters above 4.9, and over 50 A’s across her courses. Joy credits God, her mother, supervisor, lecturers, and friends for their support throughout her journey.
Despite narrowly missing the Best Student in the Faculty of Science award by 0.02, Joy’s achievement is notable: highest CGPA in her department, first First-Class graduate in Applied Geophysics in over a decade, and seven convocation awards.
